The Alcotest®5820 is the entry-level model in Dräger Safety AG’s professional line of breathalyzers. It provides fast and accurate analysis of breath alcohol content, suitable for testing employees subject to monitoring. As the successor to the proven Alcotest®5510, it uses the same high-end sensor as the flagship model used by the Traffic Police—Alcotest®7510. It differs from its predecessor with a more ergonomic design, additional features, and a lower price. All of this makes this affordable professional breathalyzer a suitable model for the most demanding end users who insist on measurements identical to those taken by the police.

Measurement Speed

The Alcotest®5820 is very fast, ready for use within 5 seconds of being turned on. You can test employees almost instantly, which is a significant advantage during repeated testing carried out as part of mass employee screenings. Sample analysis is almost instantaneous. Non-alcoholic samples are analyzed in less than a second, while alcoholic samples take a little longer.

Easy and Intuitive Operation

All functions necessary for measurement are conveniently accessible via the brand’s signature green <OK> button. Navigating the menus is intuitive using the two arrow buttons. Easy-to-understand text messages on the display help ensure accurate measurement of alcohol content. LED and audible signals assist the measurement process.

Analysis with a professional sensor

The Alcotest®5820 is equipped with the proven DrägerSensor® electrochemical alcohol sensor, used in all professional models from the German manufacturer. The sensor is characterized by a very short response time, accuracy, reliability, and durability. Measurements remain accurate even at sub-zero temperatures and in extreme heat. Even after a test with very high alcohol levels, the sensor always delivers accurate, reliable, and repeatable results.

Universal Consumables

The Alcotest®5820 uses the same type of mouthpieces as the Alcotest®6820 models, 7510. This type of mouthpiece is also used by the brand’s previous-generation breathalyzers, versions 3000, 5510, 6510, and 6810. Both standard and one-way valve mouthpieces can be used, ensuring the highest level of hygiene and preventing any attempts to tamper with the test.

The modern design of the Alcotest® 5820 provides everything needed for quick, easy, and hygienic administration of the breath alcohol test. The mouthpiece’s contour allows it to be positioned correctly intuitively, even in the dark. When a breath sample is detected, the breathalyzer measures air pressure at two points, preventing attempts to tamper with the sample even when using the standard mouthpiece.

Hygienic and Safe

Thanks to the spacer, the subject’s lips are kept away from the body of the device. The spacer on the mouthpiece can also be used to eject the mouthpiece if necessary.

The Alcotest®5820 is also compatible with modern mouthpieces featuring a check valve. These prevent any attempts to tamper with the test from the outset. They also provide a higher level of safety, protecting individuals from the transmission of pathogens (such as COVID-19) when attempting to inhale through the mouthpiece. The check valve also protects the breathalyzer’s sensor from contact with liquids, food, and saliva, which could damage it.

Rapid test without a mouthpiece

The Alcotest®5820 enables rapid alcohol screening without a mouthpiece. This can speed up the procedure during mass testing and significantly optimize the company’s costs. Optionally, a special reusable funnel-type mouthpiece can be ordered, which concentrates the exhaled air sample toward the sensor, improving the accuracy of non-contact measurements

How do you use this feature? It’s very simple! Point the breathalyzer at the employee’s mouth and press the button. The breathalyzer will take a sample of the surrounding air and “sniff” for alcohol. If it detects even minimal amounts of alcohol, it will signal immediately!

The results of this type of non-contact measurement are indicative: the display shows the text “NO ALCOHOL/ALCOHOL.” In the event of a positive test (alcohol detected), an accurate measurement can be taken immediately using a mouthpiece to display the blood alcohol concentration in per mille. Use a mouthpiece only for positive tests!
