Description

Dräger immobilizers, commonly known as interlock (in Russia as alkoblokiratoralkozamok), are vehicle control devices that prevent the vehicle’s engine from starting if alcohol is detected in the driver’s breath. They first gained widespread popularity in the U.S. through probation programs, and over the past decade have become widely adopted in the commercial sector, primarily in bus and heavy-duty truck transportation. A number of countries have laws requiring certain vehicles to be equipped with such systems.

What are the main reasons for using

  • Legal requirement. In a number of countries, the use of breathalyzer-immobilizers is mandatory in certain vehicles—for example, in France for all vehicles used for the public transportation of children and students.
  • In probation programs. In the U.S., Sweden, and a number of other countries, there are active probation programs that allow drivers caught on the road with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit to continue driving their vehicles with a Dräger immobilizer installed.
  • For corporate fleet risk management. Breathalyzer-based ignition interlock devices are used by companies with effective risk management practices. The use of such systems reliably reduces the risk for insurers and, consequently, the company’s insurance costs.
  • Voluntarily, for example, by drivers who want to reassure their loved ones that they are not driving with children after consuming alcohol.

How it works

Before the engine is started, the breathalyzer immobilizer requires the driver to provide a breath sample through the mouthpiece. If alcohol is detected above a certain limit, the control unit prevents the driver from starting the engine.

AM-4085 consists of two components:

  • a handheld breathalyzer (handheld) and
  • a control module (control unit)

Where can it be installed?

Virtually any vehicle or machine: passenger cars, minibuses, buses, trucks, forklifts, agricultural machinery, construction cranes, trains, ships, etc., regardless of whether they are powered by a conventional internal combustion engine or an electric motor.

Easy to use

The Alcogran AM-4085 features an ergonomic design that makes it easy to operate with just one hand. The interface is intuitive and will not pose a challenge for drivers, even when using it for the first time.

The mouthpieces attach conveniently to the front of the measuring device.

Extensive Configuration Options

The Alcogran AM-4085 offers a variety of configuration options to meet user requirements.

For example, to prevent a driver from consuming alcohol after starting the engine, the system can be set to require a retest—even while the vehicle is in motion—after a specified time. Or it can be set to perform multiple tests at regular intervals.

Speed

Alcogran AM-4085 doesn’t hold drivers up. At 0°C, it is ready to test in less than 6 seconds, and even at -20°C, the warm-up time will be no more than 100 seconds. Sample collection and analysis take no more than 5 seconds.

Reliability

In the event of a malfunction, poor connection, or other issues, the system can be bypassed in an emergency to prevent the vehicle from being immobilized. Access to this function is granted by the dispatchers on duty, allowing the vehicle to complete its route and proceed to the service center for inspection.

Preventing Attempts to Cheat on the Breathalyzer Test

A unique feature of this model of Dräger immobilizer is the ability to perform the test using the exhale-inhale-exhale method, which provides additional protection against attempts to cheat by using a pre-filled balloon.

Operates reliably even on cold winter nights

The Alcogran AM-4085 can operate at temperatures as low as -20°C, ensuring effective driver testing and engine ignition even during the winter season.

Additional Modules

The Alcogran AM-4085 can be integrated with a GPS tracker that records the vehicle’s coordinates during a driver’s breathalyzer test. Optionally, a camera can be installed to record the driver during the test to prevent fraud.

Detailed Event Information

The control unit stores data for the last 3,000 tests, including the date, time, consent or refusal to provide a sample, measured blood alcohol concentration, whether the device allowed the engine to start or blocked it, and whether an attempt was made to tamper with the test.

The information from the memory can be transferred to a personal computer for further processing via an RS232 cable interface.

The price includes: an alcohol testing device, a control module, connection cables, 5 mouthpieces, and instructions for use and installation.

Installation in the vehicle can be performed by virtually any competent auto mechanic; however, if the vehicle is under warranty, it is recommended that the installation be performed at an authorized service center. If needed, we can arrange for assistance from a trained specialist for the installation.
