Breathalyzers without mouthpieces

Dräger breathalyzers without mouthpieces are designed for rapid testing of employees, such as during mass screenings at a company’s entrance. No mouthpieces are used when taking measurements with these devices. Testing without a mouthpiece is fast and cost-effective, maximizing cost savings for employers conducting sobriety checks. Some models of mouthpiece-free breathalyzers provide reliable, indicative results: they show whether or not there is alcohol in a person’s breath. Other models provide semi-quantitative results, i.e., they indicate an approximate alcohol concentration within a certain range, for example, from 0.20 to 0.50 per mille.

Measurements with this type of breathalyzer are used for an initial “screening” check of employees and workers. If alcohol is detected using a mouthpiece-less breathalyzer, a repeat confirmatory test with a breathalyzer that provides a quantitative result is recommended. When measuring with a breathalyzer equipped with a mouthpiece, a sample is taken from the deep parts of the lungs, where the partial pressure between the blood and the air is equalized. Therefore, such a measurement is reliable and provides an accurate quantitative value for the concentration of alcohol in the body.

The use of such breathalyzers for initial screening has a positive environmental impact, drastically reducing pollution from disposable plastic mouthpieces.
