Rapid Test for Detecting Dust Mite Allergy (IgE)

Purpose:

Detects IgE antibodies against house dust mites. A positive result indicates a possible cause of a dust allergy.

What Are Dust Mites?

Dust mites (micro-mites) belong to the spider family. There are more than 50,000 species of dust mites, but only a few of them are the most common cause of respiratory allergies in children and adults. They live for only 6 weeks, but can reproduce very quickly. The feces of these parasites trigger allergies when inhaled. They feed on skin shed by humans and thrive best in dark, damp, and warm environments.

Where are house dust mites found?

Ideal places for their survival and growth include house dust, mattresses, carpets, curtains, bedding, sofas, stuffed animals, and more. When we lie on a bed or sofa, or shake out a rug or our pillows, we disperse these allergens into the air. When inhaled, they can cause allergies and lead to rhinitis, asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, and conjunctivitis.

Testing Procedure

Preparation

• Allow the test and buffer to reach room temperature
• Remove the test cassette from the sealed package immediately before the test
• Place the cassette on a clean, flat surface

SAMPLE COLLECTION (finger prick test)

Collect a blood sample from any finger by pricking it with the automatic lancet included in the kit:

• Wash your hands thoroughly and disinfect the finger from which you will draw blood using the wipe included in the kit
• Massage the finger for a few seconds to improve blood flow
• Use the lancet to prick the skin and wipe away or shake off the first drop of blood
• Gently rub your hand from the wrist across the palm to the finger to form a new drop of blood on
• Draw a blood sample by touching the tip of the capillary tube to the drop of blood. Fill the tube to about 2 cm from the middle of the pipette. Avoid introducing air bubbles.
• Place 1 drop of blood into each of the 3 sample collection ports on the test cassette marked with (S)
• Interpret the result after 10 minutes:

Interpreting the result:

• Normal: Two colored lines appear. One colored line must always appear in the control zone (C), and the other line must appear in the test zone (T). This result indicates the presence of human IgE antibodies to house dust mites. *NOTE: The intensity of the color in the test line area may vary depending on the IgE concentration in the sample.

• Negative: One colored line appears in the control region (C). No line appears in the test area (T).

• INVALID — if no control line (C) appears, regardless of whether a test line (T) has appeared or no lines are visible at all.

Reasons for an invalid test: insufficient sample volume or improper storage of the test. Repeat the test with a new kit.
