Where should you use a gas and smoke detector?

  • In residential properties, including houses, apartments, and condominiums heated with wood and coal. Detectors should be placed near sleeping areas, as fires often start while people are asleep.
  • Other rooms where fuel-burning appliances are used, such as furnaces, boilers, or water heaters.  Detectors should be placed near these appliances to ensure nothing catches fire in the room.
  • Campers, RVs, and yachts — Smoke detectors are essential in campers, RVs, and yachts, as they are all equipped with combustion-based heating appliances, stoves, cooktops, and, in some cases, internal combustion engine-powered generators.

How do smart detectors with Wi-Fi functionality work?

Detectors with Wi-Fi functionality offer a whole new level of protection and convenience. They connect easily to mobile apps such as “Tuya Smart” and “Smart Life,” enabling centralized control and constant access to information about the status of your home.

Why choose smart detectors with Wi-Fi capability?

  1. Centralized control:

    • You can monitor levels of carbon monoxide, smoke, or other potentially hazardous gases from anywhere with an internet connection.
    • The app provides a centralized platform from which to control all the devices in your home.
  2. Real-time alerts:
If a hazard is detected, such as elevated carbon monoxide levels, you’ll receive an immediate notification on your phone. This is extremely useful if you’re often away from home or want extra peace of mind.

Can I easily silence the alarm?

Yes, you can silence the sound on any detector for 10 minutes by pressing the TEST button. This is enough time to check all rooms for the hazard.

About Smoke

Smoke is one of the greatest threats in a fire—it contains toxic gases that can cause loss of consciousness and suffocation in a matter of seconds. Inhaling smoke is the leading cause of death in fires, so detecting it early is crucial. This allows enough time for a safe evacuation.

Why is it dangerous?

  • Suffocation – Smoke displaces oxygen in a room, leading to a lack of air and loss of consciousness
  • Toxic gases – It contains deadly substances such as carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, which block the transport of oxygen in the blood
  • Reduced visibility – Thick smoke makes it difficult to orient oneself and evacuate during a fire
  • High temperature – Hot smoke can burn the airways and cause serious damage to the lungs

Symptoms of Smoke Inhalation

Smoke Level Description Symptoms
Mild smoke For example, smoke from a candle burning in a closed room. Mild irritation of the eyes, throat, and nose; possible mild cough.
Moderate smoke When there is an active fire in an adjacent room, but not in the room where you are. Difficulty breathing, dizziness, severe eye irritation.
Thick smoke Thick, black smoke, as if from burning furniture or an electrical appliance in the same room. Loss of orientation, severe difficulty breathing, possible loss of consciousness within minutes.

JKD-517-W Maintenance

Gas detectors are factory-calibrated during manufacturing and do not require periodic calibration throughout their lifetime.

Recommended Maintenance:

  1. Cleaning: Clean the housing to ensure that dirt or dust does not block access to the sensors. Depending on the environment, cleaning should be performed once a month to once a week (for very dusty environments);
  2. Battery replacement: Check the batteries regularly to ensure optimal performance. Battery life ranges from 6 months to 2 years.

Other than what is mentioned above, the detector requires no other maintenance.
