DINGO SCREEN – a breathalyzer for quick tests without a mouthpiece

Dingo Screen is a screening breathalyzer for the rapid preliminary diagnosis of alcohol intoxication. It is suitable for testing employees at the entrance/exit of a facility quickly and without the use of consumables (mouthpieces). This model was developed for traffic police in South Korea to enable them to conduct rapid and effective mass screenings of drivers on the road without causing traffic jams.

Dingo Screen is suitable for daily sobriety checks of 10–15 employees, with 3 checks per day: at the start of the shift, after the lunch break, and at the end of the shift.

Dingo Screen uses an electrochemical alcohol sensor, offering the following advantages over the more budget-friendly breathalyzer with similar specifications Alcoscan AL1100:

• is sensitive only to alcohol vapor—results are not affected by other molecules, such as cigarette smoke, onion candy, or others;
• has a longer service interval—under normal use, calibration is required only once every 12 months.

Dingo Screen is an easy-to-use breathalyzer, operated with just one button. Turn it on and wait a few seconds for the device to be ready for testing. Hold the breathalyzer up to the person’s mouth and ask them to exhale moderately forcefully into the funnel. Sample collection begins automatically when the breathalyzer detects exhalation; the device emits an audible signal to indicate successful sample collection, and after 1–2 seconds, the result is ready. After a few seconds, the Dingo Screen automatically resets and is ready for the next test. All you have to do is bring it to the next person being tested.

The Dingo Screen breathalyzer has another useful feature—forced sample collection. This feature can be used to verify that the device is functioning properly, for example, if the result is disputed. A control sample can be taken immediately from the surrounding air to verify that it reads 0 per mille. In addition, it can be used to check for the presence of alcohol vapors in enclosed spaces (such as inside a car) or to collect an alcohol sample from a person who is unwilling or unable (if unconscious) to provide a breath sample.

A distinctive feature of this screening breathalyzer is that it indicates not only the presence of alcohol but also an approximate estimate of its concentration. The result is displayed via LED and audible signals based on a traffic-light system, making it easy to interpret:

• Green light – measured blood alcohol concentration is less than 0.20 per mille;
• Yellow light + audible alarm – measured alcohol concentration in the range of 0.20 to 0.50 per mille;
• Red + continuous audible alarm — measured blood alcohol concentration above 0.50 per mille.
